On site experience a boost to Cert II students

The Industry Capability & Inclusion team’s Certificate II in Heavy and Light Rail Fundamentals (Pre-vocational) provides secondary students with basic knowledge and a realistic overview of the heavy (train) and light (tram) rail industry in Victoria.

Students are taught in a combination of structured learning, self-directed learning, and hands-on training in a simulated work environment.  This enables students to make more informed choice about future employment within an area of the industry that best suits their interests, capabilities, and career aspirations.

Some 12 of the latest cohort of Certificate ll students recently attended the LXRP Glenhuntly site. They were fortunate enough to be given a site tour by Elvira Cadan, Haydn Brouwer, Nathan Hardacre and Joanna Nuttall from LXRP. Their combined experience gave the students a real-life view of onsite work life

The students are currently studying their project management unit, and the site visit offered an opportunity to see construction first-hand and to understand how detailed a level crossing removal is and what roles people play.  The students also heard about job pathways the students could potentially take in the future.

Thank you to Elvira, Hayden, Nathan and Joanna for generously giving their time to assist what will hopefully be the next generation of rail infrastructure talent.
