Aboriginal Engagement Resource

A practical guide for industry

Originally co-designed by the Social Procurement Innovators Network in 2018–19 as part of the Training for the Future (TFTF) program, the Aboriginal Engagement Resource has been refreshed to incorporate new resources, case studies and insights. The updated resource aims to enhance our industry’s ability to respectfully and meaningfully engage with Traditional Owner groups, as well as the broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Peoples) community, businesses and staff.

The resource offers quick, practical and contemporary steps for engaging respectfully and meaningfully with Victorian Aboriginal communities. It was informed by feedback and contributions from an extensive range of sources, including:

  • Aboriginal businesses
  • government teams working in this space
  • cultural heritage advisors
  • the Department of Transport and Plannings (DTP) First Peoples Self Determination unit.

It has also been aligned to the DTP’s First Peoples strategies and self-determination policy.
