Rail Academy and the Industry Capability and Inclusion (ICI) team are proud to announce they have won gold in three categories at the Asia Pacific LearnX 2020 Awards.

The LearnX Live! Awards is an international awards program that recognises multiple fields within learning, development and talent management across the corporate, education and public-service sectors worldwide.

Training for the Future (TFTF) won the Best Future Learning Model for Certificate II in Heavy and Light Rail Fundamentals, a newly developed qualification targeted at year 10 and 11 students. The course is the first of its kind qualification in Australia that provides students with basic knowledge and offers a realistic preview of the rail industry. Four main areas in rail explored include customer service, rolling stock, operations and infrastructure, giving students the basic knowledge and a realistic preview of the industry. This will enable students to make a more informed choice about future employment within an area of the industry that best suits their interest, capabilities and career aspirations.

Continuing to support the growth of the Victorian Rail Industry, the two-year ‘Rail Industry Capability Project’ (RICP) won gold for the Best New E-Learning Adopter Initiative. The RICP developed a range of accredited vocational education qualifications for the heavy and light rail sector. As a result, 15 rail qualifications compromising of 200 units of competency have been designed to support the rail industry in upskilling its workforce. Working with industry partners Metro Trains, V/Line and Yarra Trams, Swinburne and Chisholm Institute to develop these courses. In addition, the project delivered 10 e-learning courses for the Certificate III Rail Customer service, to support the training of V/Line staff who are regionally located.  Through collaboration RICP is proactively addressing critical skill shortage areas and closing the industry capability gaps by offering more dynamic, sustainable and cost-effective training products for the rail industry.

Finally, TFTF’s Fusion program, which addresses critical skill shortages in the areas of industry communication and stakeholder relations. Winning gold for Best Induction/Onboarding Project, the Fusion program is unique to the Victorian Rail Infrastructure Industry by offering knowledge, skills and industry insight to entry to mid-level communications and engagement professionals. The personal development program is designed to cover important skills and knowledge unique to the major project environment.

TFTF is well recognised for its industry-led initiatives and as Victoria’s rail industry continues to grow exponentially alongside rail infrastructure projects, these training products will build the capacity and capability of current and future rail employees.
