Rail Careers Week 2018

More than 150 Victorian high school students and local job seekers were hosted at the Rail Academy in Newport on 14 and 15 August for Rail Careers Week. The event showcased the range of exciting career options in the rail, light rail and construction industries.

Students and job seekers browsed exhibits and enjoyed presentations by key industry organisations from the rail, construction, education and employment sectors. Attendees also got to enjoy catering supplied by social enterprises Sorghum Sisters and Crepes for Change.

The Rail Academy provided an ideal venue, giving students and job seekers the opportunity to take part in a safe, simulated track walk and experience a functioning signalling system demonstration. Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions and receive advice from industry experts about what a career in rail is really like.

Feedback from participants and exhibitors was extremely positive with one student summing up the day, by saying:

"I enjoyed everything that was shared today to help me think about what I can do in the future.”
